This section is intended to host my interactions and observations on Digital Technology. Its inspiration is to supplement a research project that I am involved in – not as a Researcher but as a participant – you might say as a Guinea Pig.
MY Experience Though Dementia
The following is a video putting together a "quick" answer to the question posed. It is a little unpolished but .....
Hammer Time
I received an interesting bit of technology this Christmas. Remarkably simple. A bit reminiscent of when No1 son at about age 8 heard a LP playing for the first time. He remarked you could hear the music coming right out of the grooves.
Daily IT
The following is a quick overview of the PC's I use on a regular basis. My main PC is a traditional desktop, running Windows 10 Pro (64 bit). This PC provides may main storage with 21 TB of internal disk space. It is also were I do my video editing/rendering.
When in my workshop (out the back as it were) I have a second PC to make life easier. It runs Win 10 Pro (64 bit) and provides quick internet access and acts as my media player while working on my model railway - or anything else. It is my music repository.
It also links 6 IP cameras located around the layout - including two hidden in a 7 metre tunnel. It also links to a projector via my HDMI sound system.
The third PC I use regularly is a old laptop located in the lounge room. It runs Win 10 Pro Insiders edition (64 bit) (-to see what the update path looks like). Its primary use is for quick reference while watching the idiot box.
The fourth PC is a little Intel NUC that is connected directly to the 55" Smart(?) TV. This acts as a versatile media centre.
Finally there is the Mobile phone. It (surprisingly) links effortlessly to my desktop calendar and echos my appointments etc. Indeed it even works in reverse with my desktop PC's notifying me of missed calls etc on my phone. Its important to note that I use my mobile when I go out, very rarely do I use it at home. It lives most of its life on my desk only really being used when I'm out and about. To that end the calendar app is most useful as are real-time train timetables. On occasion I have used it to compose blogposts etc but find the interface frustrating and only to be used as a last resort.
The following is a short 3 minute view of my technology.
Mobile Tech
This post is exploring using a mobile phone as a input, ...
Recently I completed a post on my mobile (on a "speeding" train) (Click to see Blog). My experience that day re-enforced my previous experiences trying to do "constructive" things with mobile tech and their "smart" APPs.
The aborted first line of this post is an example of my experience, It didn't quite complete but I was lucky in the sense that WordPress AutoSaved it as a draft. This video attempts to illustrate some of the issues.
Also as a interesting side note, I did some playing with the background PHP to allow me to (theoretically) upload a decent sized file directly into WordPress - (The above video). It appears to be still uploading and I have in the meantime connected via an FTP client and uploaded the file (a trifling 143 MB) and linked it via a URL path. This process is simple and straight forward for me but near impossible (I would imagine) for the average user.

Audio Blog Week 1
Sometime into the first week I thought of video and voice recordings to tie into this blog - as I was working on developing it. it just took me some time to get the bits in place.
So today at the end of week two I began. One of the pre-requisites was security and a search on the WordPress official site revealed it should be easy to password protect this post. So if you needed a magic password to read this then it worked!
What I have attempted to do is record on my phone some "shortish" words to parallel what I have written in the journal (this is partly because reading my writing may be as much of a challenge for you as dementia is for me). I've transferred these to my PC and ftp'ed them to a folder on my blog and now am attempting to link them here.

Technolgy Out And About
This is pobably the first post done though this medium. I compose (attemt to) this on my phone in a moving train. Hows that? One finger blogging in a relativlr crowded train.
Today i was in forum including a signifant number of people living with Dementia discussing the format for a website that is being planed as a one stop shop to link researchers and potential 'subjects' and visa-versa.
It was interesting to view the process from my IT background and see the bigest communication issues were not Dementia related, but to do with Tech-speak vs lay-speak.
I look forward to further discussions re database and web design.

The Project
This page represents a record (possibly partial) of some aspects of my engagement and interactions with digital technology. The recording or journaling of this process does represent some challenges, but ones that hopefully will be beneficial.
This post represents the start and in part the testing of this medium as a journaling tool.
